BEHIND THE MUSIC

A stylistically unique Rock/Country-Rock artist from day one; Kian Sparkes has been been singing, performing, and playing all his life. Throughout the course his career, he has won over the hearts of music lovers from all walks of life; performing at a variety of venues, making hundreds of public appearances - all the while recording new music.

Hailing from the ‘music-city’ of Liverpool, Kian was raised on a wide mix of music: country, folk and rock ’n’ roll. He grew up dancing and singing and playing with anything that could make a musical noise. Teaching himself to play guitar at an early age, he began to write songs at the age of 15!

Kian’s blend of vocal harmonies, twin-lead guitars, slide and acoustic guitars has been likened to the heydays of Country-Rock, Classic-Rock and Southern-Rock. A large twist of country music reverberates through his sound can be traced back to some of his earliest childhood memories of listening to his father's music during long road-trips in the back of his parents' car; a mixing-pot that helped to create Kian’s own sound.

Playing live has always been great fun for Kian. He has enjoyed playing gigs from his formative teenage years to the present day. As well as live shows, Kian has constantly written songs and musical ideas throughout the years and has accumulated an impressive back catalogue; he is now in the process of recording and producing this music to share it with the world. Many of the earlier songs, written with his good friends Kenny Shaw and Tony Marsland, became firm live favourites within their band's set. Following the break up of 'The Fox' band, Kian recorded a ‘demo’ album of the ‘Unfinished Business’ sessions in 2000. Following some initial interest from record companies, Kian decided to record a second ‘demo’ album of another 11 of his own songs. Again, ‘Has It Got What It Takes?’ gained good reviews and more interest from some small record companies; but again nothing developed from the initial interest. Unable to fund an independent album at the time, Kian continued to play live and write more songs. He always knew that he would play & write music, but after many years of hard work and disappointments he decided to explore a different path by enrolling at The Open University to pursue a career in teaching. After graduating with a BSc Hon in Life Science, Kian took up the challenge of an educator. But, nothing could suppress his desire to write, record and share his music with the world. And after several years of disillusionment his passion for music became too strong to ignore any longer...

In 2016, Kian embarked on the journey to self-produce, re-record, mix and master both the ‘Unfinished Business’ and ‘Has it Got What it Takes?’ projects – both released in 2017 and 2018 respectively. Kian third album, 'Comfortable Skin', was released on Boxing Day 2019, after many months of writes, re-writes, mixing & re-mixing.

2020 was... well what can be said about 2020! Kian was scheduled to play several support shows and was readying himself for a year of live work when the COVID-19 pandemic hit! Then Lockdown came and the LIVE music industry was basically over for the foreseeable future... But, as always Kian tried to find some good in the situation - no matter how bad it was - and he used the extra time he had to his advantage - re-mixing & re-mastering his first two albums for a 2020 re-release. He has also been working hard 

More music is in the pipeline for 2020 and beyond!

Kian has now played nearly 100 live stream shows on his social media platforms, to help build his ‘Crew’ of loyal online supporters. He is also now on Patreon where supporters can aid his creativity and get exclusive access to more content!

Kian’s passion for music, songwriting and playing live continues to grow. Following his decision to finally commit, or submit, ‘fully’ to his music he has made great leaps forward. As an independent artist, Kian sets his bar high and is determined to produce the best music and releases that he can for his loyal supporters to enjoy. Kian has proven his staying power, commitment and determination to his music and his art… the road hasn’t always been easy, but he has always said that he was ‘in it for the long-run.’

The future may be uncertain but Kian is going to be a busy and make it a music packed year. … come along, and be part of the journey!
